What is organic food?

Organic food is food that is grown without the use, generally, of synthetic fertilizers, extra chemicals, pesticides, radiation, etc. Farmers who produce organic food are interested in preserving the environment for us and our children, and preventing soil and water eradiation.

Who controls the standards for organic food?
In the United States, the USDA has a department which handles the details and specifics of organic food. They are in charge of determining whether food from a farm meets the standard of organic.

Is organic food necessarily better than conventional food?
From the USDA’s point of view, they can make no claim for or against the quality of organic food being better than conventional food. Organic food is not necessarily produced with taste in mind. It is, generally, produced with the environment in mind. Some will vouch that the flavor is better, and this may be true, but it can not necessarily be said for all organic foods.

How can I tell the difference between organic food and conventional food?
The USDA determines whether food is organic or conventional and labels the food accordingly. If you see the organic food label packaged on the food, it is guaranteed to be at least 95% organic.
